Board of Directors

  • Brian Haughton

    President

    Brian is a founding partner of Barg Coffin Lewis & Trapp, LLP, a boutique environmental law firm in San Francisco.  He counsels clients and represents them in administrative and judicial proceedings regarding all areas of environmental law.  Brian regularly lectures and publishes in the field and has served as an adjunct professor of environmental law at Hastings College of the Law and University of San Francisco School of Law.  He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Environmental Law Section and has repeatedly been honored as a “Super Lawyer” by San Francisco magazine in an annual survey of Northern California lawyers.  Brian attended the University of Sussex, UC Davis, Harvard Law School and UC Berkeley School of Law.

  • Terry Berkemeier

    Treasurer

    Terry Berkemeier earned a BSc and a BE in Geology and Mining Engineering from the University of Sydney. He worked at the Libanon Mine in South Africa as an underground miner and analyst following his graduation, and then spent many years in corporate finance and investing at Bankers Trust, Merrill Lynch and the Capital Group Companies. He is on the boards of The Rosalind Russell Medical Research Center For Arthritis and The San Francisco Jazz Organization in addition to Marin Theatre Company. He is married, lives in Larkspur, has three adult children and four (at last count) grandchildren.

  • Robin Rice

    Robin Rice is an experienced retail executive whose senior level leadership experience spans the brick and mortar, ecommerce and catalog channels as well as wholesale.  Robin has worked for such great retail and wholesale brands as Macy’s, Ocean Pacific, Carter’s, Gap and Williams-Sonoma creating, growing and maximizing businesses.  Her focus has been on establishing and growing brands such as Newport Blue for Ocean Pacific, babyGap for Gap, Carter’s, Just One Year (Target) and Child of Mine (Walmart) for The William Carter Company and west elm for Williams-Sonoma. For the past 3 years Robin has consulted in the retail field and has recently joined Serena and Lily as a member of the executive team.Robin is also currently on the Advisory Board of the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation.

  • John Chesley

    John has been a member of the Health Care Group at Ropes & Gray, a leading global law firm, since 1985. For over 20 years he has focused on meeting the needs of clients in complex transactions and challenging regulatory contexts. John blends transactional skills with knowledge of tax-exempt organizational law, health care regulatory and reimbursement issues and securities law disclosure requirements. Beginning with the wave of issuances preceding the Tax Reform Act of 1985, he has participated in tax-exempt financings continuously throughout his professional career, serving as borrower's counsel, bond counsel, underwriter's counsel and investor's counsel. He has major tax-exempt financings to his credit in California, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island from high-yield unrated debt to AAA-rated bond issues for Stanford and Harvard.

  • Carl Berry

    Carl is CEO of Star Resort Group LLC, the nation’s most experienced shared ownership development and marketing company. Star specializes in luxury fractional interest residences and urban and resort timeshares.Star’s projects are located from New York City to San Francisco to Aruba to Puerto Vallarta, and Whitefish MT, Snowmass CO, Northstar at Tahoe CA and Stowe VT.
    Professionally, Carl is a former Chairman of the American Resort Development Association, its Leader of the Year, a full member of the Urban Land Institute and a member of the Recreational Development Council Silver Flight. Carl's not-for-profit activities include former President of the University of Idaho Foundation and Alumni Association; President of the Board of Trustees, Lick Wilmerding High School; Founding Director of the Meritus College Fund; and board member of the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts Foundation.

    With more than 30 years of public relations agency experience, Dave lends his expertise to corporate and marketing communications across a wide scope of industries. He manages the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices of Ketchum West, a global communications agency, supporting staff, client and agency business interests.  Dave also leads the agency’s global sustainability initiative.  In that capacity, he provides strategic positioning counsel and crafts authentic communications platforms for organizations and brands developing a sustainable program.  He is active in the Bay Area community and sits on the board of trustees at Grace Cathedral, and has been involved with San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Symphony.

  • Kipp Delbyck

    Kipp is an educational consultant, specializing in college counseling.  She works with high school students in the Bay Area and in Asia.  Before becoming certified as a college admissions consultant, Kipp was a lawyer and lived in Hong Kong and Taiwan for seventeen years. Most of that time was spent as Legal Counsel for Dupont China Limited. When Kipp returned to the States in 1997, she obtained a secondary school teaching certificate in English.  Shortly thereafter, Kipp joined the founders of 142 Throckmorton Theater, helping to establish the non-profit and serving as it President and on the Board of Directors until 2006. Kipp has also served on the Board of the Mill Valley Library and on various education and arts committees at The Branson School and San Francisco University High School.

  • Molly Dick

    Molly Dick is the creator and director of CrossRoads, a relocation consulting firm for the past twenty years. She has represented Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley, Restoration Hardware and Method Home Products, among other companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the non-profit sector she has taken leadership roles including serving as President of Kentfield Schools Foundation as well as Chairman of Marin Campaign and overall Super Sunday Chair of Jewish Community Federation.

  • Susan Holdstein

    Susan Holdstein has been on the MTC Board of Directors since 2003. She was marketing committee chair for over five years, has been active on the annual fundraising committee for many years, and currently serves as event chair.  Susan is involved in a variety of arts and theater organizations including The Acting Company, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum.

  • Dirk Langeveld

    Dirk has enjoyed a career in international shipping, holding senior management positions in global shipping companies, a cruise line, and a variety of maritime finance and service companies. He holds degrees in naval architecture, marine engineering and business. His current venture with Livermore National Laboratory aims to develop and commercialize security technology for shipping containers. Dirk was first active in theater in high school, university, and subsequently community theater until moves to New York, Charlotte, Tokyo, Manilla, and London kept him from active involvement until he joined the MTC board in 2005.

  • Ivan Poutiatine

    Ivan Poutiatine has been on the MTC Board of Directors for over 30 years. He chaired the site and architect selection committees, wrote the program for the new theater, and helped oversee the construction of the present facilities. He has been president of the Board three times, and he chaired the Steering Committee for our 5 year Strategic Plan. He chaired the selection committee for the present Artistic Director and served on the selection committee for the present Producing Director. His other Mill Valley community service includes two years on the Architectural Design Review Committee, five years on the Planning Commission, two years on the General Plan Steering Committee, one year on the Marin/Sonoma Wastewater Planning Committee, four years on the Board of the Southern Marin Sub Regional Sewerage Agency, four years on the City Council (Mayor in 1977), and three years on the Board of the Library Foundation. He also served on the building committees for both the Public Safety Building and the Community Center. In 1985 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, and in 2007 he received a Milley Award for Creative Achievement. He is a practicing architect.

    Christoper B. Smith is retired from K-Line America, a containerized cargo transportation company. In his capacity as Vice President of Research and Development, he was in charge of introducing new technical procedures to move cargo safer, easier and faster.Chris moved to Northern California from the Midwest in 1969, and after absorbing the rich beauty of Marin County's land and people, has been giving back to the community in many ways. He is on the board of Marin Theatre Company and the California Film Institute (CFI).Chris now splits his time between Kona, HI; San Rafael, CA; and Naples, FL. His contribution in all these areas range from public assistance to land conservation to continuing the arts.

    Beth has been a subscriber at MTC for decades - since the days when it performed out of the Golf Club. Now retired, Beth previously worked as an editor and dance/theatre critic for City, Francis Ford Coppola's magazine, and a copywriter for Foote, Cone, Belding. She also edited a book on the history of Marine Chartering. She has previously served on the Art Council of the San Francisco Art Institute, where she chaired the "Wrecker's Ball" and "Caribbean Night;" and on the board of the Bolinas Museum, where she originated Art Auction, now in its 17th year, and chaired the Capital Campaign, which resulted in the purchase of the museum building.
